Here Are The Specifications Of The Radio:

Wouldn't surprise me if it didn't come equipped with a hidden transmitter and GPS to locate and eavesdrop on the person it was delivered to.

Re: GP-4L SURVIVAL RADIO

Of course we all have it in our cell phones anyway. :banghead:

No matter, I Would just ditch it on a freight train when you want to throw em off your trail. Thats what I would do with a cell phone.

Got a couple of cheap JWIN am-fm-sw radios for under $10 wholesale a couple years ago, but they only go down to 6 MHz. These are $25 and go down to 5.20 MHz and are about half the size, would like to try one out.

Grundig, try the 300PE for a small portable unit or if you like tabletop sideband performance try the old 400 Yacht Boy.

I use the 300PE as my clock radio on the nightstand and a tiny 100PE for shirt pocket portable.

The truth is Curtman, you wouldn't get the 150hrs rated usage time out of this if there was a GPS transmitter on board. Transmitters suck DC like there's no tomorrow. Run a current check using Ohm's law to tell if ANY of your devices are doing this.

Grundig Mini 100PE Radio is a good cheapo radio. Digital tuning costs more. Sony is way overpriced. I am happy with my Grundig Traveller VII but it is no longer available. Gotta shop around. Be sure to get a cheapo long optional external antenna.

I have a Grundig 350. It has an analog tuner with a digital readout. For the $$$ analog is the way to go.

STAY AWAY FROM CHEAP DIGITAL TUNERS.... They are garbage.

The high end digital ones like the ICOMs are nice, but very pricey.

Does it make poached eggs too ?

I think that's considered a general communications reciever, not a portable shortwave rig.

I just ordered one of these for a camp radio....

An inexpensive compromise between pocket and bench. I like the directional ferrite coil.

My survival radio is a Yaesu VX7-R. Scans from 500kHz to 999MHz. I can pick up AM, SW, FM, AM aircraft, TV audio, and much more. Transmits FM on 4 different ham bands.

It's easy to attach a long wire to the tip of the antenna for low band/SW reception.

Operates from included Li-ion battery, 120VAC charger, or a 12V car adapter.

Ham radio outlet (http://www.hamradio.com/) has them for $314.95, AES (http://www.aesham.com) has them at $314.99. I got mine from AES a couple years ago for about the same price.

As for 'bugging out", where do you intend to 'bug out' to???

'Mobile retreat' = refugee

And yes, the Frog 7 is considered a 'portable' -

Um.... No.

A carry handle doesn't make it realistically "portable" SF. It just means you can move it with one hand.

As for refugee.... we are already that. Don't believe me? Stop paying your rent or property tax.

what about something like this ?
am/fm/shortwave/light
power source - solar/dynamo/dc/ac

also serves as cell phone charger

but will it actually tune in shortwave

maybe this is a better choice

Due to EMP and its ability to FRY most all civilian radio gear, I use only the SEM35, PRC25 and PRC77.SEM 35 EMP hardened(as is PRC'S) but half the price .Helmut Singer out of Germany sells SEM 25s, SEM 35s (my favorite-battery pack takes 1.5 D bats instead of those hard to find Magnesium multi-volt bats) cheap, under $100 with acc. a year or two ago.
